There are airlines that America has seen crumble that were once considered mainstays. The airline industry can be extremely difficult, so this is just the nature of the business. Philippine Airlines has seen its share of hard times, like everyone else. They were able to come out of receivership in 2007 after going into it in the late 90s. But the fighting spirit they started with in 1941 hasn't been lost during their hard times. They have been aggressively upgrading their fleet to current standards as well as purchasing the latest technologically equipped and designed long distance aircraft. One thing is for sure, there is never a dull moment for Philippine Airlines as a lot has transpired during 2010. PAL acquired their second heavy airliner, the Boeing 777, in January; the 777 represents state of the art long distance airline technology. In late March they announced additional international destinations which brought their total to 26. November 2010 saw PAL roll-out an all new advanced seat selection program. This new service provides a unique and highly convenient process for seat selection for those who book tickets online. Like many other major airlines, Philippine Airlines offers many hotel and tour packages to their passengers. PAL worked hard to choose programs and packages that would offer their passengers the greatest variety. This helps ensure that no matter what your preference, you should be able to find something that suits your tastes. That is also in line with PAL's exclusive catering to corporate frequent fliers. They created a special department to provide custom business frequent flier packages. This how they are able to completely accommodate their corporate business customers. Both the Pacific Rim and the mainland Asian markets were hit hard by the Asian financial crisis. In 1998, Philippine Airlines was placed under receivership due to financial hardship. Of course they had to forfeit many of their established destinations simply due to the inability to service them. But they have been slowly climbing back and reclaiming many of the destinations they had lost. In 2007, PAL began to aggressively rebuild their business as they were finally able to exit receivership. As has already been mentioned, they now own 2 Boeing 777s, the most advanced airlines in the world. Philippine Airlines has to carry a larger burden of social and financial responsibility than most, if not all, other major airlines. The reason for this is due to the small size of their country plus the general and chronic financial stress that exists in the Philippines. When you are living and operating in such a small area, it is wise to accept that you cannot ignore the realities of social circumstances. Consider they opened their own aviation flight school that trains people for aviation careers. Not only are they helping people in the Philippines, but they are providing aviation career opportunities in their country. When I am not trying to figure out how can I lose weight I enjoy reading about Philllippine Airlines.
